In the past few years, by executing the Center for Open Intelligent Connectivity (OpInConnect) from The Featured Areas Research Center Program within the framework of the Higher Education Sprout Project by the Ministry of Education (MOE) , we have established the first P4 experimental testbed in Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, mainly using High-speed P4 programmable switch with Intel® Tofino™ ASIC supporting P4 language, for P4 application development with various network performance and security enhancements, and Intel® Connectivity Research Program for education and training to cultivate P4/network software development engineer; at the same time, we also cooperate with the Accton Technology Corp. to carry out industry-university cooperation. Also, we hold P4 Workshop in Taiwan with Accton Technology Corp. and Intel® to expand and promote the results of P4 technology/application development every year.

Professors Charles H.-P. Wen, Chien-Chao Tseng, Shie-Yuan Wang, Kate Ching-Ju Lin, and Chien Chen make up the center’s primary P4 group development team. The following figure displays the primary study and development areas at the moment:

• Integration of P4-enabled Smart NIC card (such as Intel® Infrastructure Processing Unit (Intel® IPU), NVIDIA® BlueField® Data Processing Unit (DPU), etc) and P4 network equipment(with Intel® Tofino™ P4 ASIC).
• Development of P4 Security Applications
• Development of P4 Applications to Enhance Network Performance
• Intelligentizationof P4 Network Equipment
